Picture this: you are driving to the cities to go shopping with your family, and the next thing you know you have suffered third degree burns all thanks to your phone. In the society we live in today, our lives revolve around our phones. We can use them to call people from all around the world, send mail in the blink of an eye, capture all important life events by the touch of a button, and some can even start a campfire. If you haven’t heard, there has been a recall placed on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. There have been reports of the phone “exploding” and “over-heating”. It is believed that the problems in the phone are caused by the battery. It has been reported that the battery burns while it is charging overnight. Fortunately, Samsung has issued a statement reassuring Galaxy S 7 users that their phone will not catch fire. For students at BHS who have a Samsung Galaxy S 7, this is good news. Senior Jordan Maack is one of many people who have the S 7. When asked what he would do if he had the Note 7, Maack replied, “I would return my phone in exchange for an iPhone 7.” This recall doesn’t look too promising for Android products. When interviewing staff member Holly Inniger on how the recall will affect Samsung, she said, “I believe the sales will go down, but they will rebound with a new product.” Along with sales going down, this recall has been very expensive for Samsung, costing them roughly 5.3 billion dollars after it is all said and done. Luckily for Senior Elizabeth Ellefson, this doesn’t affect her as she has an iPhone 6s. When asked on why she chose the iPhone over any other option, she replied, “It came with a rose gold case, and I like the brand.” Consumers will have to wait and see if Samsung will be able to take the heat, and overcome this obstacle.
