The Barnesville High School spring sports have recently had to reschedule a lot of games/meets due to bad weather. There has been a total of 13 rescheduled games just because of spring weather. There have also been incidences that games/meets have gotten cancelled when the weather is perfectly fine. Softball coach Aaron Schindler stated, “We had a game recently that was postponed because of weather, and I truly believe it should have been played. It was a situation where the team we were playing had colder temperatures than we did here so they didn’t want to play.” Because of all the postponed games and meets, the activity directors are having to find a time that would work for both teams to reschedule. The question still stands on what the conditions should be in order to cancel games/meets. Track coach Britta Teeples stated, “If it is storming/precipitating steadily and if the real feel temperature is below 50 degrees, it should be cancelled. The combination of cold temperatures with  precipitation does not only provide for not ideal conditions, but can also put our athletes in a position where they are more likely to get sick or injured.” When meets and games get cancelled, coaches will have to figure out something else to do. Softball when there isn’t a game the day there was supposed to be a game they usually go in the gym if it’s too cold or they lift. If it’s not that bad of weather they usually go out to the field have do some infield. Eighth grader Samantha Passa stated, “We usually scrimmage or do a mock meet so we still get the game/meet we were hoping to have that day. But sometimes it is too cold for even practice.” There is still a great controversy over when games should or should not be cancelled.
