Most people spend their time in high school just waiting for the final their 3:18 bell. Unlike the movies, no paper gets thrown in the air, kids aren’t crazy down the hall; it’s almost like every other day before it, but with a little more joy in the air. With graduation right around the corner, a nervous feeling has crept upon me. It is this feeling that leaves me shaken. This feeling that will linger with me until I truly step foot into the real world. This feeling makes me look back at my time I have spent at BHS. I think about the friends I have made, the fights I have gotten into, the parties I went to, and the activities I joined. Thinking about all this made me realize something very important, and that is to be yourself. High school can be the best time of your life as long as you do what you want to do. You shouldn’t have to feel pressured to do anything you don’t want to do just because someone says you should. On that same note, you should take a risk, join an activity you’ve always been interested in, even though it may not seem “cool”. We live in a society where we care about our social status more than our own personal happiness. In the words of philosopher Alan Watts, “Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.” So, my message to all of you is this: Make high school the time of your life. Have some fun, try something new, make new friends, and be safe. We only get one life on this Earth, so spend it the way you want to.
