Music fills the hallways with Christmas cheer. Constant practices keep choir and band students busy during this holiday season. We usually don’t see any of the progress until the actual concert. Little do we know, there is so much work and effort that goes into these fantastic holiday concerts at Barnesville High. So, how are things going behind the scenes of this year’s holiday concert? Senior and saxophone player in the band Marli Ahles expressed her concern for this year’s concert, she said, “I’m nervous if it gets too cold because my reed will get too dry and I might squeak unintentionally.” Many may not be aware of the minor details that can have a big effect on the overall complete product. Senior, president of Chamber Choir, and alto two section leader Beth Gerner said, “This year is different because everything is just flowing from one thing to another so I hope it all goes smoothly. It’s the one thing I’m nervous for.” All the small things mean a lot when it comes to the preparation for an important concert like this one. The audience is used to seeing the finished product instead of all the work put into it. Choir director Jennifer Gylland said, “I’m excited to share the music with the audience because we’ve been living it for so long.” There’s a lot to look forward to for this year’s concert, so take some time out of your Monday to go out and enjoy some music this holiday season!
