On Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, the Lady Trojans basketball team traveled to the Fargo Civic Center to play against Roseau. This is the first time Barnesville girls basketball team has ever played there. For many players, it can be difficult to get used to an unfamiliar court.  Junior basketball player Claire Meyer said, “I tried not to think of the Civic Center changing the way I play. I played the same as I used to, but it took awhile to get use to the court. Your depth perception kind of gets thrown off because you’re not use to the atmosphere.” Coach Aaron Schindler agreed with Meyer. Schindler explained his thoughts on the experience and said, “It was a good experience to play at a neutral floor to prepare the girls for playoffs. Different is good.” However, we had someone in the crowd who was familiar with the court. Vikki Nielsen played on that same court from 1986 to 1989. The atmosphere was different from when she was in high school, and Nielsen commented, “In the old days, the Civic Center was packed for a game, and was a standing room only. It was so full that you couldn’t hear the ball bounce. Now, they use it more for single games, and it feels empty.” While playing at a neutral site, many people question which team has the advantage, Schindler added, “No team had an advantage because both teams are traveling, and everything is new to each player.” The Lady Trojans lost to Roseau making them 16-3. They will host Breckenridge on Friday, February 9th, 2018. Come out and support your Lady Trojans!
