Two weeks ago competition moved to the Barnesville FFA group. Two vending machines have been added to the Barnesville High School. The only issue with these vending machines is that they aren’t controlled by the Barnesville FFA group. They are instead controlled by the Student Council. Now these vending machines are taking away from the FFA group because “There a lot of students that would usually buy from the FFA vending machines that are now buying from the new ones” said senior Tessa Herman. The new vending machines have been very popular and have been running out of stock since we got them. They have already been out of order a couple times. The new vending machines are no doubt more popular than the FFA ones, but Tessa thinks that “They are just something shiny and new, and they have a wider selection than we do.” They are new and they do have a much wider variety in both food and drinks. Some of these foods and drinks consists of a wider variety of Kickstarts, chips, and granola bars. Since they are more popular than the old FFA ones they now have to try to keep up or get sales again. Tessa has an idea on how they could keep sales up, she said “We have to try to keep the 6th graders buying pop-tarts and fruit snacks.” Which isn’t a bad idea, little kids like that stuff, and if you can keep them buying, things will be fairly okay. The FFA may see a slight downfall in funds because the other machines are more popular, how much though isn’t exactly clear yet. As to how FFA will be affected as a whole for the future “I think we will be okay, there are still a lot of students purchasing from the FFA machines,” said Herman. Although the new machines may be rough competition, FFA is not worried too much about all of this.
