School Was Off to a Cold Start for the Year

On the students’ first day back to school after Christmas break everyone was asking themselves “why is it so cold in the school?” The reason for it being so cold was because the boiler system in the school shut off while the students were gone. Some people thought that the school might be a little warm because the boiler was running all throughout break, but they were wrong. Sophomore Kim Maesse had some things to say about the boiler being off. “It was so freaking cold in this school. I was even wearing a sweatshirt!… I was sweating, but was very cold at the same time.” Sounds like Kim had a rough first day back from break, just like most students. No one was expecting to come back to a cold school. Temperatures were at roughly 60 degrees for the whole day, so it wasn’t that bad. The boiler system we have in the school is a new boiler system, and some students may recall having a few issues this past fall. Last fall, when the school was having issues that was because the transition between the old and new boiler system was taking longer than expected, so this was actually the only time we’ve had an issue. The kinks are still getting worked out, and eventually the new boiler will be running with zero problems. Some students believe that the temperature of the room affects their ability to learn. Maesse said, “I was focusing on trying to warm myself up and complaining.” Teacher Mrs. Solum, said that she usually keeps her room around 70 degrees during the day. If the temperature of the room is anywhere between 66-72 that is about perfect for learning condition, because then it’s neither too cold or too warm.  Hopefully, the boiler system stays running for the remainder of the year and for the years to come, but also make sure to keep a sweatshirt in your locker just in case it does happen again.
