Chase Brenner, a senior at Barnesville High, is a standout wrestler. His record this year is 24-8.
Brenner has been wrestling since preschool, which makes for a total of 14 years for him now.
Brenner wrestles for Barnesville and has been a varsity wrestler since 8th grade, although he
says he didn’t start taking it seriously until about 9th grade. Brenner wrestles at 120 pounds. He
recently competed in the annual Heart of Lakes conference championship. Brenner did an
outstanding job and won the championship. He was the number 1 seed at 120 pounds and had
a first round bye. In the semifinal match Brenner got a pin in the first period. When asked about
his matches, Brenner said, “I handled the first match very well, but by the second match I was
getting tired.” Brenner went on to win the final match 17-9, making him the champion. Brenner
has received offers from colleges to wrestle for them, but doesn’t plan to continue his wrestling
career after high school. If you see Chase Brenner around, be sure to stop and congratulate him
on his championship because he deserves it.
